WTWT NEWSLETTER April 2021

Dear Loyal Supporters

Despite Covid-19 WTWT are delighted to let you know that we have not only continued, but expanded our work in Tanzania. Thanks to the huge generosity of you, our donors, supporting us and responding to our appeals, including Aimee’s recent 250 miles walked for us (thank you so much Aimee!), to WMI (Women’s Microfinance Initiative) and to Whitegates Children’s Trust we have been able to:

• support Doctor Shemaghembe’s outreach health clinics giving much needed health care and immunizations
• sponsor an increased number of girls to secondary school, escaping child marriage and childbirth in their early teens
• fund a classroom in Ngoile ward enabling more children in this remote area to attend school
• fund translators in the health centres, encouraging more women to attend for antenatal and general health care
• increase our adult literacy and numeracy classes
• increase our school health clubs to every school in the area, enabling children to discuss with their parents and challenge the practices of FGM and child marriage
• increase our loans in the villages of Mto wa Mbu ward

 

 

This is Nurse Amina, in charge at Irkeepusi dispensary, with Selina our translator. She is very grateful for Selina’s work: “she is a great woman, very confident and tolerant. She was volunteering here for several months with empty pocket but doesn’t give up. She cooperates with us in implementing Heath classes as well as health clubs.”
Selina no longer has an empty pocket for her work, WTWT are paying her.
In the past women have been reluctant to attend medical centres because they could not be understood by the Swahili speaking staff, who did not speak the Maasai language. Their attendance has increased since having sympathetic interpreters.

A message from one of our staff:
“Rachel takuenya (hello)! I meet Amina and Selina today and they are really doing a great work. They help everyone there in the dispensary especially women when they visit for maternity services. They give education about family planning and the number it goes higher from 2% 2018 to 70% 2021”.

 

 

We are hugely grateful for all your financial support and your encouragement of our work. Without you we could not do any of this.
As always, our flights and administration are paid by ourselves, so all of your donations go directly to the community projects.
