2018 September Newsletter – Mbario, FGC, Naiyobi and VICOBA loans
Dear Loyal Supporters
Our latest exciting news is that Mbario, whom we sponsored to secondary school and then medical college, has completed her training and is now working for us.
She is a confident and passionate young woman who, despite having suffered FGM herself, wants this harmful practice and child marriage to end in their community:

Mbario sends us daily pictures and feedback of the classes she is running in both primary and secondary schools and for the adults in the community.
She is giving careful teaching, so that people understand why the time-honoured tradition of FGC is not a good thing for girls. Amazingly many parents are now agreeing to stop this practice for their daughters, and girls are starting to progress to secondary school without having either been cut or married.
This may sound a small achievement, but it is big. There has been such resistance to changing this practice in this area. When we first visited, back in 2005, no one had heard of a girl not being cut in Irkeepusi village. This is the first village we worked in with a similar population to Weston Turville, around 4,000 people. We also now work in 6 other villages in the area. Eventually, we expect, this practice to stop altogether out amongst the 90,000 people living in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Loans
Our other encouraging news is the feedback we have had from women who have received loans and business training from us, in collaboration with WMI. They are living in a remote area, where they have not had loans before:

We have also sent funding for a classroom in Naiyobi ward, Iltulele Village, where there is no school for any of the children there. I hope to see the start of the building on our visit in January 2019.
